The 2021 Annual Presidents' Forum of the Alliance of Asian Liberal Arts Universities (AALAU) hosted by Northeast Normal Academy (NENU) was conducted successfully on 11 Nov 2021. It was conducted in an online format in light of the evolving pandemic and the associated travel restrictions.
Guided by the theme of "Liberal Arts Education: Mission of the Times and Implementation Path", over 70 educational leaders and scholars representing xix universities from India, Japan, Republic of korea, Thailand, Chinese mainland and Hong Kong shared updates on the all-time practices and exchanged views on the time to come development of liberal arts educational activity in the region.
Prof. Liu Yichun, President of NENU and Prof. Leonard K Cheng, President of Lingnan University delivered the opening speeches. President Liu declared that the key mission of future pedagogy is to cultivate students' mindset and ability to address the "doubtfulness". Universities are responsible for strengthening cultural and moral pedagogy and heighten students' ideological awareness, morality and cultural literacy. Under the new normal of COVID-nineteen pandemic, universities should fully utilise the existing international exchange resources and brand efforts to maximise internationalisation locally by shifting from the traditional international cooperation model that mainly relies on physical mobility to the new model that involves rich technological, "Smart+" and "Internet+", elements.
President Cheng shared his thoughts on the skills and traits that are required for all talented individuals in the 21st century. He highlighted the "4Cs" for life and career development: Disquisitional thinking, Inventiveness, Advice and Collaboration. He as well commented that through holistic didactics, students should exist able to develop "4Cs" and other traits including self-consciousness, personal and social responsibility and life-long learning spirit that can heighten their hereafter career competence. In terms of holistic instruction management, multiple approaches should exist adopted and a quality assurance system should be built. With an effective evaluation organization, students' comprehensive and sustainable development can be enhanced.
Prof. Huang Futao, Professor of Research Institute for College Education of Hiroshima University, gave a keynote speech titled "Liberal Arts Instruction in Japanese Universities", which introduced the educational goals and execution of liberal arts instruction at the University of Tokyo, Tokyo Institute of Technology and Hiroshima University. He pointed out that the liberal arts education in different countries would need to undergo an evolution process from external introduction to localisation, in lodge to amend suit to the local atmospheric condition.

Lingnan Academy Scholar-in-Residence Programme in Fall 2020

In order to promote the internationalisation of the University and enhance the developments in teaching and learning and inquiry, the Scholar-in-Residence plan was launched in 2020/21 to offer international classroom, advance curriculum evolution, and collaborate in joint enquiry activities. Distinguished scholars from fellow member institutions volition be invited to reside at Lingnan University for ane semester. Apart from educational activity courses of his/her expertise, the scholar will as well make recommendations on the enhancement of curriculum and programmes and share his/her valuable experiences through various activities such as workshops, talks, and other cultural activities.
In Autumn 2020, LU was pleased to welcome the Scholar-in-Residence, Prof. Stephen Yong-Seung Park, Director of Institute for Peace through Commerce and Professor of Human Resources Direction of Kyung Hee University in Republic of korea. During his residency, Prof. Park taught courses in both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in the area of his expertise and served as a consultant to provide cross-cultural perspectives on curriculum and programme development. He also conducted online seminars for faculty members and students, participated in activities contributing to internationalising the campus, curriculum and communities, and attended meetings with LU faculty members to explore collaboration opportunities between Kyung Hee Academy and LU.

The 2020 Annual Presidents' Forum of the Alliance of Asian Liberal Arts Universities (AALAU) was held in a hybrid format at Due east Cathay Normal University (ECNU) on 12 November 2020.
Guided by the theme of "Constructing the Liberal Arts Instruction for the Hereafter: Challenges and Opportunities", effectually 60 educational leaders and scholars representing 22 universities from Republic of india, Japan, Southward Korea, Thailand, Chinese mainland and Hong Kong shared updates on the all-time practices and exchanged views on the hereafter development of the Alliance.

Prof. Leonard K Cheng, President of Lingnan University, delivered a keynote speech on "Liberal Arts Pedagogy for the 21st Century: Challenges and Opportunities", in which he shared on the skills and traits required for all talented individuals in the 21st century. He highlighted the "4Cs" for life and career development, Critical thinking, Creativity, Communication and Collaboration. Almanac Presidents' Forum 2019

The Second Almanac Presidents' Forum of the Alliance of Asian Liberal Arts Universities (AALAU) was held on 23 and 24 October 2019 at Lingnan Academy.
The two-day Forum drew about 50 educational leaders and scholars from seven countries and regions to substitution views and explore areas for collaboration. AALAU International Symposium at National Chengchi University

Professor Joshua Mok Ka-ho, Lam Human Tsan Chair Professor of Comparative Policy, together with Dr Paulina Wong, Assistant Professor of Science Unit, Dr Jin Jiang, Dr Padmore Amoah, and Dr Weiyan Xiong, Enquiry Banana Professors of School of Graduate Studies, presented at the Alliance of Asian Liberal Arts University (AALAU) Symposium at National Chengchi University (NCCU) on vi September 2019. The Symposium was co-organized by NCCU, Lingnan University, Tunghai University and College Education Evaluation and Accreditation Council of Taiwan (HEEACT). It was part of the inquiry collaborative projects of AALAU, with the support of the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust. The theme of the symposium was" Economic Globalization and Regionalization: Implications for Higher Education, Graduate Employment and Intergenerational Equality". The event attracted scholars from Singapore, Prc, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Nihon, Haiti and Taiwan. During the meeting, the Lingnan University enquiry team adult stronger links with experts in education and social policy.
Research Collaboration Workshop
4-five July 2019
Promoting regional and international inquiry collaboration amid the partnering institutions of the Alliance of Asian Liberal Arts Universities (AALAU), Lingnan Academy organised the Research Collaboration Workshop on 4 to 5 July 2019. The result addressed bug surrounding Comparative Asian Studies, the central theme of research collaboration. Under this overarching theme, a few research workshops were held, with each focusing on a given subject, namely: (1) Liberal Arts Education: Asian and Comparative Perspectives; (2) Comparative Civilization and Literature; (iii) Ageing Studies in Asian Countries; and (iv) Smart Cities, Digital Culture and Urban Governance. Academics from Duke Kunshan Academy, China, and National Chengchi University, Taiwan, came to Lingnan University for the event. The Research Collaboration Workshop provided a great platform for Lingnan's academics to explore and develop enquiry projects, publication plans and learning enhancement programmes designed for research students.
With the support from the Alliance of Asian Liberal Arts Universities, Prof. Taisaku Ikeshima, Dean of School of International Liberal Studies, Waseda University was invited to visit Lingnan University in the week of 7 May 2019.
Prof. Ikeshima delivered an inspiring seminar on the topic of "Japan's Foreign Policy to Overcome Its War Legacies: Is International Law Useful in Resolving Japan's Territorial Issues with Its Neighbouring States?". Nippon'due south controversial issues with her neighboring states were illustrated and shared with over thirty students and faculty members. Through this interactive seminar, the participants could have an in-depth exploration on whether the International Police force is useful to resolve Japan'southward territorial disputes with her neighbors. There were active interactions betwixt the flooring and the speaker.
In order to explore collaboration opportunities between Waseda Academy and Lingnan Academy as well as amidst the Alliance members, Prof. Ikeshima attended meetings with Prof. Shalendra Sharma, Acquaintance Vice-President (Academic Quality Assurance and Internationalisation), Mr. Edward Shen, Registrar, Prof. Mark Alan Mc Ginley, Director of Core Curriculum & General Teaching Part, Prof. Pang Kwong Li, Head of Section of Political Science and Ms. Joanne Lai, Manager of Office of Global Pedagogy.
Prof. Sharma and Prof. Ikeshima agreed to deepen the collaborations between the 2 universities, and they commented that the visit consolidated the connexion and partnership between Waseda University and Lingnan University.

Annual Presidents' Forum 2018

The Annual Presidents' Forum of the Brotherhood of Asian Liberal Arts Universities was held on 15 and 16 November at Lingnan University.
The two-twenty-four hour period forum was attended by 50 participants, including representatives of alliance members, potential new member, the senior management and faculty members of Lingnan University. The forum offered a skillful opportunity to discuss matters of importance to the Alliance and to shape the forthcoming years' agenda. It also provided a platform for member institutions to identify major bug and challenges with reference to international all-time practices in higher pedagogy, search for innovative approaches to liberal arts education given the electric current and future landscape in college education in Asia and bring together efforts in addressing the new challenges and opportunities in liberal arts education.
In the welcoming address, Prof Leonard K CHENG, President of Lingnan University expressed his gratitude for having birthday 22 member institutions from China, Taiwan, Nihon, Republic of korea and Bharat to bring together the Alliance. President CHENG remarked that "Providing quality liberal arts didactics is our common mission and passion. We need to share information and insights, in particular best practices of what works and what does non." He also shared with participants the important achievements of the Alliance made this year in the areas of student mobility, kinesthesia exchange and research collaboration.
During the Forum, members discussed possible collaborations in the areas of programme development, entrepreneurship, research and civic engagement and developed the AALAU mutual theme of 2018-19 – "Asian Comparative Studies". Members volition work concertedly on collaborations promoting the theme and appoint faculty members and students in related projects and activities.

Supported by the Brotherhood funds for scholar visits between members of the Alliance of Asian Liberal Arts Universities, Prof. Stephen Yong-Seung Park, Professor of Human Resource Direction and Director of Institute for Peace through Commerce of Kyung Hee Academy visited Lingnan Academy in the week of 23 April 2018.
In the workshop delivered by Prof. Park at Lingnan Academy, the new model of management education in Kyung Hee University was illustrated and shared with the audition. It provided a precious opportunity for participants to have an in-depth exploration on the new paradigm. Followed by reflections from the floor, direct interactions with Prof. Park served every bit a platform to review the integrated transformational model of Responsible Management Education in the contemporary business organisation pedagogy organisation.
Following the workshop, Prof. Park had a meeting with Prof. Alfred Wong, Head of Department of Management of Lingnan Academy, and faculty members from the Department to explore further collaboration opportunities.

The Launch Conference of the Brotherhood of Asian Liberal Arts Universities organised past Lingnan Academy in Hong Kong was held on 20 and 21 November 2017. With the theme of Liberal Arts Didactics in an Asian Context: Achievements, Challenges and Perspectives, the ii-solar day Conference brought together educators from all over the globe to assess liberal arts education from an Asian perspective.
The Conference as well marks the launch of the Alliance of Asian Liberal Arts Universities and is a major activity organised by Lingnan University in commemoration of the 50th Anniversary of its re-establishment in Hong Kong.
The objectives of setting up the Alliance are to enable universities with similar features and missions to learn from each other, through benchmarking, best practices that can collectively enhance their quality of teaching, learning and research. It tin as well raise the prototype and contour of the member universities by increasing their international presence, and will help to promote liberal arts educational activity and its benefits and importance in Asia.
Professor Leonard K Cheng, President of Lingnan University suggested information technology was time to assess liberal arts education and rethink its positioning in the Asian context in view of the challenges and opportunities for the coming decades. "In recent years, nosotros have witnessed in many Asian countries a significant interest in liberal arts pedagogy.
